I
just recently started up a copy of FFIV PSP and there's only one thing
that comes to mind when i play this game. Downgrade? I don't know, it's a
little weird, but am i the only person who thinks that making a
sprite based game for the PSP instead
of sticking to the 3D version that the DS got, a downgrade? To their
defense, they did remake FFIV: The After Years as well. It's a little
difficult to complain about something regarding these games, when
they're literally handing you 3 games for the price of one. You get
Final Fantasy IV, some extra content that you'd normally unlock after
completing the first game, and The After Years. The amazing thing about
this is that you don't have to pay for Episodes for The After Years,
like you normally would on Wiiware. You could probably pick up this game
for about the same price as purchasing The After Years alone on
Wiiware, except you're treated to new and beautifully improved sprites
on the PSP version. The sole reason that i can think of why Square would
want to develop these games as 2D sprites games is because it was the
only way to fit all of these games into an UMD. My only problem with
that theory is that i'm almost positive that FFIV on the DS is about
256mb or less.. Meaning that remakes of the other 2 games in 3D would
probably still allow for all 3 games to fit into one. UMD's should be
able to store at least 1gb of storage, or possibly even more. Regardless, i don't know and probably never will know why Square didn't fully remake these games in 3D. This decision of theirs doesn't really bother me at all, it was mostly for arguments sake.
